How ORP reduces mistaken identity, unsupported serious allegations, privacy harm and misuse while preserving fair reviews and public assessments.
Identity Guard 🛡️
ORP checks normalized names, profession/country and authoritative URLs before creating a new profile. Profile pages show identity context so visitors can confirm they have the right person.
High-risk allegations ⚠️
Serious factual allegations in Public Assessments require a credible public source and are held for human moderation after email verification. A source is not an ORP endorsement of the allegation.
Private people & minors 🔒
People profiles are intended for adults with a legitimate public or professional presence. ORP does not invite profiles targeting private children, family members, neighbors or other ordinary private individuals.
Corrections & mistaken identity 🧭
Anyone can urgently report a wrong person/photo, private-person listing, minor, impersonation or exposed personal information. Verified representatives can submit structured factual profile corrections separately from review disputes.
What a People profile means
Presence on ORP does not imply wrongdoing, endorsement, verification of user allegations, or a judgment by Open Review Platform. Reviews are user contributions. Direct Experience and Public Assessment are displayed separately because they mean different things.
Coordinated-review safeguards
ORP uses privacy-preserving network/device hashes, review timing and matching-text signals to identify unusual bursts around a People profile. These signals are not proof of manipulation; they cause a review to wait for human moderation rather than being automatically rejected.
Sources and edits
When a source is cited, ORP can label its general type—such as official/government, court/legal, academic/research, established news publication, reference, social/profile or external web source. This classification is context, not a truth score. If a reviewer materially edits a published People review, ORP preserves an internal revision record and the public review can show that it was edited.
Human-only entity validation
ORP’s automatic People importer does not treat membership in a Wikipedia category as proof that an article represents a person. New automatic imports must pass title-level non-person screening and, for Wikipedia-backed imports, Wikidata must identify the entity as instance of human (Q5). Existing records can be rescanned by administrators; confirmed non-person records are quarantined rather than silently deleted.
Public category labels
People category hubs are based on the profile’s established public/professional role. A category is a navigation aid, not an ORP judgment. In particular, Crime & notorious cases is reserved for profiles whose documented public identity is connected to notable criminal cases, convictions, organized crime or similar established records; the category itself must not be treated as a new allegation.
Duplicate profiles and old URLs
Administrators can merge duplicate People profiles without silently throwing away conflicting review history. Old profile slugs permanently redirect to the surviving canonical profile, helping both visitors and search engines reach the correct identity.
What ORP does not publish intentionally
ORP rules prohibit doxxing and sensitive personal data such as private home addresses, private phone/email details, identification/account numbers and information that improperly exposes children. Reports involving identity, minors, privacy or threats receive elevated attention.
Three review areas + discovery collections
ORP keeps distinct review areas for Businesses & websites, public/professional People, and Movies. It also provides discovery collections such as Books and Trailers that connect public information back to the relevant profiles. Owner, representative and moderation privileges depend on the profile type; being listed never means ORP endorsement.
Public & professional people
Find or add adult public/professional profiles, submit a Direct Experience review or Public Assessment, join conversations under reviews, and allow the person or an authorized representative to respond. When a name is missing from ORP, search can show verified public identities from Wikipedia/Wikidata and only offers candidates confirmed as human.
Detailed movie ratings
Alongside the overall score, a Movie review can optionally rate Story, Acting, Direction, Cinematography, and Music / Soundtrack. Published detailed ratings feed the profile averages when available.
Discovered books enrich People profiles
ORP can discover books connected to People through public bibliographic sources, show them on the author profile and collect them in Books. Records can link to Open Library and, where useful, Amazon. Covers are enriched from supported public sources when available. Books is a discovery feature connected to People; it is not currently a fourth review directory.
